January Exploratory Lab Theme and Book Club focus is -Using your Senses
 
 
Discovery Center is a great family orientated attraction for the SW Missouri area.  With 11 different galleries and over 100 different hands on exhibits families of all ages can enjoy the interactive exhibits that focus on all sorts of sciences with inquiry based learning.  Discovery Center is located at 438 E St. Louis St. in downtown Springfield with free parking in Discovery Center parking lot located east of the main doors.  General Admission is $9.00 adults, $8.00 seniors and $7.00 for children age 3-15 and children 2 & under are free.  Hours are Tuesday-Thursday 9am-5pm, Friday 9am-8pm, Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 1-5pm.  Check the website at www.discoverycenter.org.
 
January 14, 2010 - Science of Wine  Thursday, January 14, 2010, 6:30pm $20 per person
From grapes to fermentation to tasting to aging, you're invited to explore the science behind wine.  Find out what wine is and how it is made, how to taste wine and why wines may need to age and how to age them.  The evening kicks off with wine and light appetizers at 6:30 pm.  From 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm there will be a panel of speakers providing an informative presentation on wine.  The evening finishes with the panelists available to speak with you individually and a variety of informational booths.  Science Behind Wine is open to anyone 21 years of age or older.  Proof of age required before entry.  Space is limited.  To reserve your spot call 862-9910 ext. 706.    Science Behind Wine is sponsored by Home Brewery and VESTA .
 
January 15, 2010- Science Sprouts Museum Day— 9-5pm-Topic for this Museum Day is Senses  just for Early Childhood Learners (up to age 6).  Includes special free science presentations and science story time geared to young learners.  Groups may schedule 30 minute programs for an additional fee.  For Kindergarten or 1st grade classes, MOPS groups, day care providers, preschools, playgroups and families.  Explore the fun of science and science of fun.
  
January 16, 2010 -Boy Scout Night at the Museum - 6-10 pm.  Activity stations will be available to participating scouts on this night, designed to help accomplish several different badge requirements.  No preregistration required.  Cost is $10 per non-member scout, $5 per non-member adult, $5 per member scout, member adult free.
Monday, January 19, 2010 - Martin Luther King Day - Museum open-9 am- 5pm .  General admission applies

January 22, 2010- Robot Workshop-Cost is for parent/child duo, plus cost of robot-$15 members/$20 non-members (Robot-Turbo 3000  $ 15) ages 6+
 
Saturday, January 23 - Discovery Center Garage Sale - 7am-3pm.  Proceeds from sale will be used for exhibit maintenance.  You can also get involved by donating items to the sale on Friday, January 22 from 9-5pm.  Items that can be donated include gently used household goods, toys, tools, baby items.   Please no clothing .  After the sale all items will be donated to Salvation Army.  For further information call Charlotte at 862-9910 Ext. 713 or check the website at www.discoverycenter.org.

January 23, 2010- Discovery Science Club!  January topic is Amazing Animals.  10 a.m.-12 p.m.  This club is designed for children ages 6-12 and one accompanying parent!  Learn new science, build a project or 2, get to see "behind the scenes" areas of the museum or special equipment, and lots more!  Different topics, activities and projects each month!  Cost-$20 per member parent/child duo, $25 per non-member parent/child duo.  Non-refundable payment due at time of registration.Registration due 5 days prior to program.
 
January 28th - Science Café -6-8pm - at Trolley's Level 2 - Join Discovery Center for a low key discussion on "Sustainable Energy" Presented by Gary Stacey, PHD and Director, Center for Sustainable Energy at University of Missouri Columbia.  Cost is free, food and beverage will be available for purchase.  Seating is limited.  First come, first serve.  For more information call Charlotte at 862-9910 Ext. 713. 

Discovery Center of Springfield is a hands-on interactive science center located at 438 E St. Louis in downtown Springfield, Missouri.  Completing an expansion project in September, 2006 to be the 1st LEED Gold Certified building in southwest Missouri.  Discovery Center is open Tuesday-Thursday 9am-5pm, Friday 9am-8pm, Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 1-5pm.  Admission is free to members and children 2 & under.  $9.00 adults, $8.00 seniors and $7.00 children (3-15).
